Spreadsheet Templates.

Top  Previous  Next

The templates are contained in Microsoft Excel workbooks that contain macros which move the data one quarter to the left when activated. The macros are virus free. The template file names and their associated work sheets are shown below, along with the chapter in the Player's Manual in which they are discussed.

1. Forecast.xlsm

- Sales Forecast Work Sheet (Chapter 6)

2. Prodplan.xlsm

- Production Plan Work Sheet (Chapter 7)

3. Capbud.xlsm

- Capital Budget Work Sheet (Chapter 9)

4. Finance.xlsm

- Pro Forma Income Statement (Chapter 10)

- Pro Forma Cash Flow Work Sheet (Chapter 10)

- Pro Forma Balance Sheet (Chapter 10)

5. Income.xlsm

- Pro Forma Income Statement (Chapter 10) single quarter only

The template workbooks are linked together so that data entered in one will flow to the next. The order of entry to take advantage of the linkage is as shown above. Cells which are linked to cells containing previously entered data are colored light brown. The template cells are protected, except for those cells where data need to be entered. These cells are colored light blue and are empty. The protection is to prevent the user from accidentally writing over formulas in cells which contain calculated values from other cells. It is quite easy for a user to unlock the template and modify any cell desired in either a positive or negative manner. Thus it is a good idea to keep a backup copy of the templates which can be used to replace damaged template files.

Each spreadsheet template except the Income template begins with a set of instructions on the first page. The second page contains a consolidated work sheet. The third page contains the current-quarter work sheet.  This is the quarter for which you are planning a decision. Page four, five and six contain worksheets for the second, third and fourth quarters respectively. Thus the complete workbook file contains instructions, four quarterly work sheets and a consolidated work sheet. You may print any combination you desire. For more information on completing the work sheets, see the related chapters in this manual.

Important Note:  To use a template, you must save it to your hard drive or flash drive. After you have it safely stored, access the template(s) from that location.  If for some reason, one of the files becomes damaged or filled with bad data, you can always replace it by reloading it from the Player's Program and saving it to your drive again.  You are encouraged to modify these templates on your drive if you desire and to develop new templates to deal with other simulation issues.  You are limited only by your own creativity and time.
